The Griffith club claimed the men's and women's premiership after being given the green light at the eleventh hour to play in the Pascoe and Leonard Cup competitions.
The constant withdrawal of teams in the Griffith competition meant the club was desperate to seek a bigger challenge elsewhere.
"Now we definitely know where we're going it definitely makes things easier," men's first grade coach Anthony Agresta said.
"The last three years it's come to the end of the season and we were trying to work out where we're going the next year.
"We were constantly writing letters, making phone calls and knocking on doors, thankfully that opened up this year so we can enjoy the off season for a change."
Hanwood captain Brad Clark took out the best and fairest and player's player gongs, the coach's award went to his namesake Anthony Agresta and Michael Musitano, and Nick Kennedy claimed the golden boot.
The women's top honour was claimed by the Leonard Cup's player of the year and golden boot winner Tara Ceccato.
Agresta is hopeful grand final hero Joey Schirripa, who scored two superb goals in the 2-1 win over Lake Albert, will return next year.
"I'd like to think so, once you finish up you're a long time retired," Agresta said.
"The hardest thing is the commitment side of things and having a young family, you've got to weigh that up.
"You give some of the older guys a bit of leeway where you can, and hopefully if we do that he'll hang around."
