An assistant in 2018, Browning took on the senior coaching role this year and is keen to see the club take the next step.
"Definitely just improving what we started on. Hopefully we can get a few more wins. We were in a lot more games but couldn't finish them off," Browning said.
"Looking back, we just weren't quite there. It was a new playing group and I'll continue to work on bringing the group together. It was a good close group but with a few injuries, we probably lacked a bit of depth.
"For me, it's all about learning and developing skill. We won a lot of footy and gained a lot of territory in games but we turned it over a lot, lacked a bit of polish, and good teams score off that."
Browning wants to build another big pre-season in the hopes of a flying on-field start next year, to improve on their one-win, one-draw tally this year.
He holds high hopes their star Canberra-based trio will also be back in 2020. Wing Ben Maiden and ruckman Shaun Allan were key additions to a side already including midfielder-forward Sean Ellis.
Ellis won his second consecutive best-and-fairest but shared the honour this time with Allan, after the ruckman tied a thrilling vote count with a final vote in the last round against Marrar.
"Our ruckman was a big one, I think Barellan lacked a ruckman, so to have first-use on-ball, that really helped us out with a lot of clearances," Browning said of the big man Shaun Allan.
"Ben Maiden playing that winger role and being able to read the play and use the ball well - and he has a big engine. You could show the boys the way he's running and the role he's playing... and help them learn how to read the play a bit better and learn that role.
"And Sean Ellis is our star, so it's nice if we can cover him a little bit more (with more contribution from teammates) and use him as our impact player. He was our leading goascorer again (with 23 goals)."
Browning couldn't have been happier with the support of the Barellan community and club.
"Their trust in me was great. They never second-guessed me and having the trust of the guys to jump on board and give me their commitment, and the club to back me in, it was great," he said.
Club president Jeff Mickan said they're rapt to retain Browning.
"Definitely. He's proved himself as a good football brain and a good leader," Mickan said.
"Our ladder position wasn't good but we think we're making progress, we're competitive for longer and we're still trending in the right direction."
Paige Kenny won Barellan's A Grade netball best-and-fairest.
