Mr Trump introduced Scott Morrison to 1500 supporters in the regional town of Wapakoneta, in Ohio, on Sunday.

Mr Morrison joked about the best way to pronounce Wapakoneta and drew laughter and cheers from the crowd when he told them of Australian place names starting with the letter W.

"It's great to be here and now, it's great to be here in Wapakoneta. Is that right? Is that close? Wapakoneta," Mr Morrison said.

"You'd think I'd get it a bit better because we've got Wagga Wagga, Wollongong, Wallerang, Wangaratta, Warrnambool, Woolloomooloo. So you know, Wapak- that fits right in ... this is a bit of Australia right here in Ohio."

The unexpected publicity in front of the world's most powerful man and the media pack that follows his every move could be a win for Wagga.

Destination Riverina Murray general manager Richie Robinson said it can't hurt and he welcomes anything that could increase the exposure of this "beautiful" city.

"[Wagga] is quite renowned internationally as being an interesting and uniquely named place and Australians are generally pretty proud of our funny names and where they originate from with the Indigenous perspective," Mr Robinson said.

"I think Wagga is already pretty great and hopefully people in America and Australia heard the Prime Minister and will now include Wagga in their plans to travel NSW."

Pizzazz store owner Tony Carlin said "any publicity is good publicity".

Mr Carlin said as long as Wagga retains its country charm there will be no need to ever have to 'make Wagga great again'.

However, Jake Hansen said he is disappointed that Mr Morrison is choosing to spend much needed funds on space programs over drought relief.

"It's pretty ridiculous considering the drought and all the trouble the Australian people are going through and he's wasting it on space programs, which would be cool but it isn't a good expenditure of money," Mr Hansen said.

"I think the [exposure] might be good as I don't think many people know where Wagga is ... I guess it couldn't hurt."
