Dust and wind greeted players and supporters for the Southern Zone country championships at Paramore Park on Saturday.
Group Nine started well in both the under 14s and under 15s with wins over Group 16 before falling to Group Seven in the cup semi-finals on Sunday.
The under 14s went down to 14-6 to before losing the trophy final to NRL Victoria 26-6.
The under 15s also went down in a close cup semi-final, 18-14, before going down to Group Six in the trophy final 22-14.
Despite the poor weather conditions on Saturday, Bidgee regional manager David Skinner was pleased with how the weekend unfolded.
"I think we had the worst weather possible on Saturday but apart from the weather I think the crowd was the best behaved we've ever had and there was plenty of talent around," Skinner said.
"Some of the ones who have been weak in previous years have improved and some who have been strong have dropped off."
Group Six were one of the big improvers at the carnival, while Group Seven was another to step up.
They took out the under 14s cup final with a 22-14 win over Group Seven while also taking out the under 15s trophy final.
NRL Victoria took a 26-14 win over Group Seven in the under 15s cup final.
Illawarra won both the plate finals.
All the winners now tackle their northern rivals at Wyong on Saturday for overall state honours.
