He's one of just three greyhounds to break the 30-second mark for Wagga's 525-metre trip, but There's A Catch has the odds stacked against him following the box draw for the Million Dollar Chase regional final on Saturday.
The Raymond Henness-trained dog won the second of the three heats on Friday.
After Deliver smashed the track record with his 29.71 run in the first heat, There's A Catch joined former recorder Good Odds Buddy when he won in 29.97.
Handler Harrison Goss was pleased with his improvement after coming up from Heathcote to trial in the lead up to the lucrative series.
"He had a trial last week and he's improved off that so you can't ask for much more," Goss said.
"He improved a couple of lengths off that."
Goss believes it was a big advantage to have the race track experience, even though it wasn't in a race.
It just so happened the started from box five in the trial before drawing the same yellow box in the heat.
"Everyone said that at Wagga you have to have a look and he actually jumped out of box five in the trial too.
"I might have helped but we went real good and you can't do much more than that."
There's A Catch has drawn box seven for the final on Saturday night.
Goss was hoping for a box closer to the rails but the tricky squeeze box wasn't an obstacle in the heat.
"I don't know if it would have mattered as he pinged out," he said.
The Rock trainer Brian Smith was the big winner from the draw with his heat winner Ultimate Speed draw one with Henness' other runner Extra Gear to start from two.
He was second behind Deliver on Friday with the group one performer drawing three for Jason Thompson.
With Wagga hosting a very rare Saturday night meeting the club are looking to build a big race night experience.
Adam Harvey will entertain the crowd during the meeting as well as after it.
There will be jumping castles and face painting for the kids.
Sky Channel's Jason Lincoln will also be trackside interviewing participants throughout the night.
The starting times will be confirmed when the fields for the remainder of the meeting are released on Wednesday.
