Matt Hunter, acting Inspector at Leeton Fire and Rescue NSW said emergency crews were notified of a fire in John Potts Drive, Junee at 4.15pm on Sunday.

"On the scene a short time later, crews found a fire in the wetlands that was fanned by winds which was headed in the direction of some houses," he said.

"FRNSW, with the assistance of RFS, was able to stop the fire from entering any of the properties.

"The fire was completely blacked out and crews finished up at 6pm that night."

On August 30, a grass fire broke out along the rail corridor beside Byrnes Road.

Junee Fire Station deputy chief Simon Crowder told the Junee Southern Cross, the blaze was not a registered controlled burn, but believed to be caused by a faulty locomotive.

"It wasn't a very windy day so it was able to be dealt with quite quickly with little damage," he said.

Inspector Hunt said it was a timely reminder for residents to prepare for bushfire season.

"People need to be prepared, especially on the urban interface where buildings meet the bushland," he said.

"Things needs to be clean around the side house with no sources of ignition and trees are pruned back.

"The better people are prepared the more resilient they will be should an event occur."
