But almost a year to the day since giving birth to daughter Evelyn, Thomas was part of a Collingullie-Glenfield Park A-reserve team which ended it's grand final "curse" with a 40-33 win over Wagga Tigers at Narrandera on Saturday.
Centre Thomas was named best on court as Demons avenged grand final defeats the past two years.
The Tigers led by one at halftime after trailing by as many as five in the second term, but the Demons regained their composure after the break to dominate the second half.
"That's not how we play, that whole (second) quarter we were just rushing everything, we weren't taking the time to think about what we were meant to be doing," Thomas said.
"It turned the game around telling everyone to take a breath.
"We've been getting 'you're cursed, you choke in grand finals (talk) so it was good to put that to rest.
"I actually like we've had to work that bit harder to get it, I think it means a bit more to us now."
In B-grade the Tigers led from start to finish in a 51-41 win, while Turvey Park needed double overtime to overcome Collingullie-Glenfield Park 26-24 in C-grade.
Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes proved too strong for Turvey Park in under-17s 39-26.
