Emergency services responded to reports of a truck crash along the Mid Western Highway, around 20 kilometres west of West Wyalong near Pfeiffers Lane, at 4.40am on Saturday.
Upon arrival, they discovered a semi-trailer in a dry creek bed off the side of the road.
Investigators believe the truck left the road and struck a guard rail before coming to land in the dry waterway.
A man, believed to be 43, died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
The highway remains closed in both directions west of West Wyalong, with diversions in place.
