A traditional finals mainstay after claiming the past five minor premierships, the Demons are yet to win an A-grade premiership. But the club's head coach Jemima Norbury says it hasn't been as big a topic internally as it has been in previous seasons before Sunday's Riverina League decider against in-form Mangoplah-Cookardinia United Eastlakes at Narrandera.
"Brigetta made it very clear at a meeting, before our first final, that making grand finals doesn't happen very often," Norbury said.
"She came over from the Ovens and Murray League and she's only played in maybe three grand finals in her lifetime.
"For us it seems a given that we're going to be in finals. Because we've been there the last five years, it's an expectation at the club.
"For girls who play in the RFL and the Wagga league, it's probably something we take for granted.
"This year we're trying to enjoy the final series and now the grand final, and understand it's a privilege and something we've worked hard for.
"Win, lose or draw it's something to be proud of regardless. That shift in perspective is really important."
Norbury said their near misses won't be a mental barrier against the Goannas, who have won the past two clashes in the last round (54-48) and major semi (63-46).
"It's nice to go in as the underdog. Having those losses is not ideal, but it creates a bit more drive and hunger in the girls," Norbury said.
It's something maybe we haven't had in previous years. We haven't (felt like we've) had to go out fighting,we've rested on our laurels a little bit and hope that would get us through.
"But I think that change has been really evident in the way we've been training the last few weeks, and the mentality throughout the group."
The clash could be a battle of the shooters with young guns Katie Caller and Sophie Fawns dominant all year for the Goannas, while the Demons boast Riverina League player of the Year Hannah Finemore and Flynn Hogg down the other end.
"The last three games been great confidence boosters, they've been our best for the season and it's nice our team is peaking at the right time," Goannas coach Marie Campbell said.
"By no means are we under the illusion that it's just effortlessly going to happen on Saturday. We're certainly ready for the battle.
"Our team's quite an unassuming bunch, they don't just expect things to happen and our message right throughout the season has been exactly that."
