FOOTBALL Wagga and Wagga City Council will use the city's first W-League pre-season match as an opportunity to prove they can take the next step and host regular season W-League and A-League clashes.

The W-League trial between Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets will be played at Equex Centre on Sunday, November 3 from 3pm, with an A-League game featuring the same clubs pencilled in for September next year.
The partnership has the potential to develop into a longer term contract which would see men's and women's matches played at the venue in alternate years.
"We want to make sure we get this one right," Football Wagga president Tony Dobbin said.
"The W-League (in the first year) is a good opportunity to take it slowly and help us work out the logistics, both ourselves and council.
"From our viewpoint this is a way to learn how to do it and we'll be looking to get main season matches as well."
Wagga Council already have a partnership with NRL side Canberra Raiders, where a official game was held this year with another slated in for next year.
They hope to work towards a similar deal with an A-League suitor.
"It's the same channel we're looking for, to start the partnership and negotiations and continue those conversations," Wagga Council deputy mayor Dallas Tout said.
"The capacity here (at Equex Centre) has grown and it will grow further in the future with the decisions (for more redevelopments) made recently."
