Heywood made the nine-hour round trip to Dubbo for Cup day on Sunday and had success with Blitzar winning the $40,000 Country Only Showcase Maiden Plate (1000m).
It was just the second race start for Blitzar after being nabbed on the line on debut at Wagga by Blue Jean Baby.
Aaron Sweeney piloted Blitzar to an impressive 2 length victory in a time of 56.77 seconds.
The win validated the opinion Heywood has of the son of Deep Field.
"It was something I knew he was capable of," Heywood said.
"I've always had an opinion of him. He's still doing things wrong, his coat hasn't quite come through so there is still a lot more improvement in him, that's the scary thing."
Among the ownership of Blitzar is former Murrumbidgee Turf Club chief executive Scott Sanbrook, who now assists Heywood with his stable administration.
Heywood has no concrete plans for Blitzar.
"I'll give him a couple of days to chill out and see what happens," he said.
"There is options but I'll let him tell me."
Meantime, Wagga trainer Scott Spackman combined with stable apprentice Josh Richards for success at Corowa on Monday.
They won the F&M Benchmark 58 Handicap (1300m) with Blazen Diamond ($8.00).
