Returning to the club as captain-coach this season, Dumbrell couldn't commit to a second year in the role with doubt over where he would be living next year.
However with both he and his wife finding jobs in far North Queensland the 28-year-old is officially on the move.
It was his second stint with the club, after linking back with the Wagga club after four seasons in Group 20 with Yanco Wamoon.
The crafty hooker enjoyed returning to the club.
"There is a fair amount of commitment from everyone around the club to get back to former ways and get that success going again," Dumbrell said.
"Everyone there was very supportive, all the young fellas were on board, they would turn up to training and they would do the right things.
"It was definitely a good year."
The Wagga side finished sixth this season, winning five of their last eight games to end seven points outside the top five.
However Dumbrell believes the club is heading in the right direction.
"I thought we had a pretty good building year with the Kangas," Dumbrell said.
"It would have been nice with that continuing but unfortunately life gets in the way of footy."
Kangaroos president Terry Cronin admitted his departure is a blow for for the club both in terms of his coaching and performance on the field.
"It is a big loss," Cronin said.
"He was well liked at the club and I was really happy him.
"I was disappointed he left as I was hoping he would hang around but he told me if he was ever within 300ks of Wagga he would play for Kangaroos."
Kangaroos advertised Dumbrell's role last month but are yet to lock in a new leader.
However Cronin expects they should retain the majority of their playing group.
