Though Friday saw fewer ticket sales due to the weather, show society secretary Aileen Storey said there was still a strong turn out where it counted.

"The weather on the Friday kept some away, but there were still a lot of competitors in the showjumping and the brumbies," she said.

Up to 7mm of rainfall fell over Wagga on Friday, with much of it arriving towards the evening.

The rain backed off for Saturday, but the temperature remained low.

Given the elements were against it, Ms Storey said it was heartening to see so many spectators and competitors roll up for the newer events.

"It's the first time we've done the brumbies, it's one we'll definitely look to have again," she said.

Owing to the inclement weather, the official opening and show girl announcement on Friday evening were moved inside, instead of taking place under lights in the show ring.

State member Dr Joe McGirr was joined by deputy prime minister Michael McCormack, and local government representative Yvonne Braid for the opening.

NSW show girl winner Stephanie Clancy from Pleasant Hills made the announcement of this year's show girl winner, along with previous Wagga winner Rachel Parsons.

Kate Webster, an honours agricultural science student from Charles Sturt University, took the 2019 title.

Again as a result of the unfortunate weather, Ms Storey said, the decision was made to pull back on Friday night's finale.

"We had a shorter fireworks [display] because there was a smaller crowd, and it was pretty rainy," she said.

"We let off about half of the lot for Friday, and kept it to then have a much bigger one on Saturday night."

Despite the opening of the heavens, Ms Storey and the show society are still pleased with the results of the 155^th annual Wagga show.

"It was all very successful really," she said.

"Last weekend's weather was so good, so you just can't predict how the weather is going to treat you."
