The Tigers finished the season as minor premiers after a 34-6 win over the Blues in the final round of the season, before going down to Southcity in extra-time last week.
Now coach Adam Perry is out for an improved performance to ensure a fifth straight grand final appearance.
"We are going to need to be a bit better," Perry said.
"Tumut will be pumped up obviously to win through as it has been a little while since they've been there but I'm sure our guys will be ready to roll as well."
Coming off the bye could have been part of reason for their performance.
Perry couldn't single out one particular thing that needs to improve after the 26-20 loss to the Bulls, but he is wary of the Blues forward pack.
"There strengths are in the forward but the fullback (Dean Bristow) is a good player as well," he said.
"They are pretty good across the park so we have to be good and man up on them.
"I think we have the best side in the competition but we need to turn up on the day and play as well as we can."
Gundagai haven't been beaten by Tumut since 2010 including taking out the 2017 preliminary final win.
