Danetrille will start one of the main fancies in a strong edition of the $20,000 Terra Ag Griffith Cup (1350m) on Saturday.
Colvin has followed the exact same preparation he took last year and will attack the feature race second up with Danetrille.
"It's the same prep we did last year," Colvin said.
"We worked it out that way. He had a jump out, then a run over 1200 metres and then nine days going into this race. He seems to thrive on it.
"Then we'll go to a mile and his best distance is a mile.
"It was a really good run at Wagga first-up and I can't fault him going in."
Dametrille won last year's Griffith Cup comfortably as the $3.60 favourite but will have a lot more competition this time around from the likes of Logan River, Gentleman Max, Le Cavalier and last-start winner Supplyzing.
"It's a really good field, a good balanced field," Colvin said.
"It's certainly not going to be a walkover. It's going to be hard to win. I think it was a bit easier last year."
Jake Duffy will take the ride in this year's Cup, from barrier three, after Blaike McDougall steered him to victory last year.
Last year's feature race win at Griffith was the first of a couple of Cup successes for Danetrille. He also won the Holbrook Cup and finished second in the Cups at Cootamundra, Parkes and Young.
"He was a bit unlucky not to win a couple more Cups last year," Colvin said.
"He'll target mainly country Cups this time in."
Colvin will take five horses to Griffith on Saturday, where he believes Zardabba, in the John Clark Memorial Benchmark 50 Handicap (1200m), will be one of his better chances on the day.
He also believes Zarsnip will run an improved race in the Arthur J Gallagher Maiden Plate (1200m) and hopes Factor Ex can run a big race for her Griffith connections in the Yenda Producers Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000m).
It is a busy weekend of racing in the Southern District, with Gundagai hosting a seven-race TAB meeting on Sunday.
Colvin's lone runner at Gundagai will be Supalux.
