Kincaid Street's Mantra Pavilion has been given Wagga City Council approval to convert 12 existing double rooms into 24 single rooms.

The construction is estimated to cost $450,000 and will increase the number of rooms from 45 to 57.

The hotel's general manager David Begg said construction is likely to commence in the coming months, with an expected completion date in early 2020.

"We have confidence in the Wagga area and regional NSW as a destination for business and leisure," Mr Begg said.

"The extra rooms inventory will also support local business, which will benefit by more customers coming to and staying in town.

"Pleasingly, both Wagga and the Mantra Pavilion cater for a diverse clientele already; this is growing, particularly the corporate traveller."

Mr Begg said the construction will be completed over a number of stages to ensure there is no impact to hotel guests.

"Currently these rooms are what we refer to as family rooms, with two separate rooms and one large bathroom," he said.

"We will be dividing these rooms into two, with separate bathrooms which will benefit the business traveller.

"Once configured, the rooms will retain an interconnecting door to allow families to occupy these rooms and have the addition of an extra bathroom."

Mantra Pavilion has been listed as a finalist for the Best Regional Hotel HM Awards, which will be announced in Sydney on Friday evening.

When asked what sets the Mantra Pavilion apart from other hotels in Wagga, Mr Begg jokingly said "me".

"It's been fantastic, I've got a great team here ... it's a unique property too," he said.

"I've only been here since May and we're developing the team, product and brand we have in Wagga and it's a perfect location as well."
