But the 17-year-old is determined to help keep the Hoppers' Riverina League premiership dream alive after playing a starring role in their elimination final victory over Griffith last week.
In the club's first A-grade final for several years, Buchanan shifted between goal attack and goal shooter and proved a real headache for the Swans' defence.
The Hoppers haven't won a first grade premiership since 2001, and Allen was part of the New Kids side which lost last year's Wagga A-grade decider to Uranquinty.
Already identified as a star of the future in development squads, Buchanan was player of the match in Kildare's Tracey Gunson Shield final win over Mater Dei this year, which snapped a run of three straight losses in the decider.
She played in defence for her school and Hoppers coach Claudia Barton said her versatility was a huge asset and gives her options.
"She can shoot really well but also defend which is really handy, that defensive background means she can defend down the court," she said.
Coolamon have the luxury of playing on their home court when they take on Wagga Tigers in another elimination final on Sunday afternoon.
Buchanan said it was difficult not to fantasize about being a part of history and helping end the club's 18-year first grade premiership drought.
"It would be amazing, a dream for Coolamon. It would be great to get that under our belt," she said.
"Coolamon hasn't been in finals for a long time, so it was really good for us to get that win (against Griffith)."
Coolamon trailed by four at half-time after a shaky start, but regained their composure to dominate the second half.
They will start underdogs against a Tigers outfit looking to secure a fourth straight premiership.
"We got a bit nervous at the start but staying composed at the end was good," Buchanan said.
"We've just got to make sure we stay patient, play our game and don't get too involved or carried away with the crowd.
"Keeping that circle moving and changing it up, not giving their defence the same look is key."
