But the 17-year-old was rewarded for a fine display in Griffith's third grade decider victory over Deniliquin by winning the McMullen Medal.
The Blacks' power and speed out wide was the difference, but Francis, playing his first year of senior football, was the man who made the right decisions for them to dominate.
"We've been working our arses off the whole season. We're a big family this club, the culture's unreal and it was a big team effort," he said.
"I've been playing since I was four years old but this is my first year in seniors. It's crazy, I wouldn't be here today without these boys, I wouldn't have been able to get it (medal) without them.
"We have a few boys here who have got plenty of speed on them, we all worked hard together to get the job done today."
