Emily McArthur was excited to begin her career as a policewoman in the Riverina Police District.
It's always been something I was interested in even though I don't actually have any family or friends in this [career]," she said.
"The training was really good, and I am excited to use it finally.
"I don't have an end goal at the moment, just interested in general duties."
Constable McArthur is from Sydney but said she was excited to start work in Wagga.
She was one of five new officers who started their careers in the police force with the Riverina Police District on Tuesday.
Superintendent Bob Noble said it is an exciting time in the life of a police officer.
"I certainly remember my first day on the job," he said.
"I am sure they are all very enthusiastic about their careers to come.
"They will bolster the existing numbers here at Wagga, and they come on the back of the allocations earlier this year."
Superintendent Noble said the additional staff would allow the police district to comprise a high visibility policing unit.

"They bring a fresh perspective, and they bring enthusiasm, they also bring the newest in training and techniques," he said.
"Training new people and seeing them get on with their careers is one of the most satisfying parts of my job.
"They have all been assigned their buddies for the next six weeks.
"They will be out from today doing things police do - keeping the community safe and making life hard for criminals."
