The Goannas saved their biggest win of the home and away season for the final round and at the same time, inflicted the Demons their ninth straight defeat, winning 18.12 (120) to 6.5 (41) at Mangoplah Sportsground.
MCUE started well and then put the game to bed in the second term as they held Collingullie-GP scoreless and kicked four goals of their own to establish a 39-point half-time lead.
George Kendall continued his strong season with a five-goal haul, while MCUE midfielders Nick McCormack (three goals) and Ethan Schiller (two goals) were two of the Goannas' best.
MCUE will now prepare for an elimination final against Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong next Sunday but coach Jeremy Rowe could not be happier with how they finished off the home and away season.
"It's definitely the way we wanted to go in," Rowe said.
"As far as the large margin on the scoreboard's concerned, that probably even went well beyond our highest hopes going into the game but we wanted to make sure that we were absolutely on point today.
"As mentioned previously, we put a lot of value into the last couple of weeks of the season and last week didn't quite go our way so it left us with only one opportunity to click back into gear, get the game on our terms and play our brand and I thought that we did that for four quarters today. It's definitely very pleasing."
MCUE won eight of their last 11 games to finish in fifth spot and will go into finals having beaten every team bar Wagga Tigers and Coolamon.
Rowe is happy with how the Goannas are positioned heading into finals.
"Definitely. We've got to keep reminding ourselves, and I certainly don't want to harp on it, but we came from one (win) and four (losses) back and where we are now and the footy we're playing, we're happy with," he said.
"We're proud of what we've managed to do looking down the barrel of one and four but it's really important to note that we're not content with merely participating in the finals. We genuinely want to be a club that doesn't just justify a season by making the finals.
"We want to go deep and we want to create a bit of a stir there. Yeah we're happy, we're proud of what we've done considering where we came from but we're really excited and we want bigger and better things now, for sure."
The loss brought to an end to an era of sorts at Collingullie-GP, with premiership coach Luke Gestier finishing up after three years. Brad McMillan and Jason Ainsworth were the Demons' best.
