The Wagga side travels to Albury on Saturday for the elimination final.
Breust is no stranger to success on the Border, after being part of a Thunder premiership, but would love nothing more than to get the better of his former teammates.
"This weekend is very exciting," Breust said.
"Playing against a former club in these circumstances is pretty motivating and we want to go a lot better than last year.
"The brand is footy we are playing at the moment we are on the right the track."
Bruest has had success against his former club, returning to Greenfield Park to kick a game-winning field last season but now the stakes are higher.
Brothers limped into last year's finals series, losing successive games to bow out, but this time confidence is high they can really make an impact.
They've only lost one of their last nine games, a two-point loss to Gundagai, and come into the clash after downing Southcity 26-18 last week.
Breust is looking to continue their momentum and believes their forward pack will be key to the clash.
"Last year we were hampered by injuries, and this year we've still battled those major injuries, but our forwards have been phenomenal," he said.
"For us backs to play off the back of them in very enjoyable at the moment.
"They've got a great forward pack so for us we have to muscle up through the middle, but if we can go set-for-set with them for the first 20 our backs are doing some special things at the moment."
Breust will be one of only three members of the Thunder's last premiership side, who completed a hat-trick of titles in 2014, involved in the clash.
Jon Huggett has been a mainstay of their side since then while Rex Sargeant comes into the starting team for a rare finals appearance following their period of dominance.
The Thunder have only qualified for the finals once since then and are desperate to make the most of the home final.
Sargeant has been named in the centres to replace the injured Damian Scott.
It's the only change following the Thunder's 40-16 loss to Kangaroos heading into the finals.
Both teams have scored big wins over each other at their home grounds throughout the season.
Albury scored a 40-16 win in round two before Brothers hit back with a 54-14 victory in June.
Breust admitted both losers were very off on those occasions, but with both seasons on their line he's expecting a much tighter clash.
