Hayden Jeans has been ruled out after suffering a calf injury before he even touched the ball in the loss to Brothers last week.
It means Cameron Copeland will start in front row with Ward named on an extended bench.
The 42-year-old came off the bench earlier this season, in the loss to Young, and captain-coach Kyle McCarthy was pleased with his performance.
"He had a cameo against Young this year and looked pretty good," McCarthy said.
"He knows what the expectation is, has done it a lot and there will be no issue putting him in."
However he will only take his place if Tim Jones fails to recover from a hand injury.
Nathan Rose will also start from the bench as he attempts to finish a game for the first time since May after being plagued by hamstring injuries.
McCarthy is looking to ease their star five-eighth back into football.
"He's a keen operator and everything he does is really explosive so we will just ease him into it," he said.
"It's a similar sort of ploy to the Gundagai game and we'll weather the storm with Luke McBeath at nine and inject him later."
It means Ben Lucas will start in the number six jumper.
Southcity took a seven-point win when the teams last clashed at Twickenham, but went down by six points at Harris Park last month.
He believes controlling the Blues big forward pack will be the key to success.
"We have to stop their forward roll on," McCarthy said.
"If we can dominate them in the middle hopefully we can use our lighter forwards to get on top of them with a bit of speed."
