The Junee utility will miss more than half of next season after being found guilty of a high tackle on Temora captain-coach Sam Elwin in the 30-8 loss on Friday night.
The Dragons asked the match review panel to investigate the incident, which forced Elwin to the sidelines.
They not only found he had a case to answer but slapped him with a serious grade charge.
It is the third time Merritt has been charged this season, after heading back to the club from Brothers, and his second suspension.
The penalty was reduced due to his guilty plea, but he did have carryover points and loading from his previous suspension.
It comes after Temora forward Zach Starr was handed a nine-game ban for a high tackle on Zac Graham and Kangaroos' Fetongi Tuinauvai 21 weeks, which was reduced to 10 on appeal.
