The Wagga side were knocked out of the running in last year's preliminary final, but were the first side to book their place in the new 10s competition grand final on Saturday.
Waratahs trailed minor premiers CSU 19-10 at half-time but were able to power away to victory in the second stanza.
Coach Mark Macarthur was thrilled with the 32-19 victory at Conolly Rugby Complex.
"In the second half the girls really went out there and gave it their all," Macarthur said.
"They lifted the intensity and they were playing for each other."
Macarthur thought a strong defensive push really changed their fortunes in the clash.
Forwards Georgia Simpson and Jess Kennedy led they way.
"Georgia Simpson in the second half really lifted and put on some big tackles and changed the momentum of of the game," Macarthur said.
"Jess Kennedy and her positive tackling allowed us to get in a more dominant position to spread it wide."
It enabled the likes of Suzie Waia to score a hat-trick while Andrea Kirkby crossed for a double.
CSU now need to regroup if they are going to defend their crown.
Reddies have been in three of the last four grand finals, but last year's title was their first.
They face Griffith at Exies Oval on Saturday after the Blacks ran riot in the minor semi-final.
For the second time in three weeks Tumut had no answers for last year's grand finalists, falling 54-0.
CSU scored a 34-19 win over Griffith last month.
Macarthur is looking for Waratahs to be up for the challenge no matter who they tackle in the decider.
"It's good to have the week break in between knowing we are in the grand final but regardless of who wins out of Griffith and Reddies we know it is going to be a very tough game come grand final day," he said.
The women's success means for a fourth year running Waratahs will feature in three grand finals.
First and second grade also went through with wins over Ag College on Saturday, however their third grade team was knocked out by Deniliquin.
Conolly Rugby Complex with play host to the grand final on August 31.
