Charles Sturt's scientist Joanna Gambetta has been named a finalist in the Australian Women in Wine awards' researcher of the year category, whereas Elizabeth Calabria-Staltare, of Calabria Family Wines, is looking to claim the title of marketer of the year.
In other news:
Dr Gambetta earned her nomination with her innovative research in viticulture and wine science, focusing on the aroma composition of wine and grapes.
"Aroma is one of the key components of the quality of a wine," she said.
"I hope that understanding the effects of heat on the formation of aroma compounds of grapes will allow producers and researchers to develop effective strategies to mitigate the effects of short and long-term climate cycles.
"Having this knowledge may also lead to reduced economic losses due to lower quality fruit and wine."
The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in New York, on the morning of September 18 in Australia.
