A lot has changed in those two decades: the furniture, naturally, has had to be replaced over time, and the library's entrances have become more accessible for people using prams and wheelchairs. In 1999, the library had only three computers with internet access. No-one could have predicted then that today it would be occupied by dozens of people accessing free Wi-Fi through their smartphones and tablets.

More importantly, the very nature of libraries worldwide has changed fundamentally since 1999. Far from being places where people might simply borrow books, libraries are now destinations with new services.

What has not changed in 20 years is the physical space the Wagga Wagga City Library has to service all of these community needs. In 1999, the city's population was around 55,000; in another 20-years' time, that population will have exceeded 100,000. Here at the library, we are planning how we can meet the challenge of serving Wagga Wagga's future population, and we need your help.

The library review will look at the existing building's capacity to cope with the population growth. It will also seek your feedback about opportunities to extend services and programs based on the needs and expectations of the community, across the suburban areas and villages over the next 20 years.
