The Thunder moved around Young on the Group Nine leaguetag ladder with a 22-12 win against the Cherrypickers on Sunday.
Last year's grand finalists underwent a large player overhaul this season however co-coach Craig Blackhall has been pleased with how the young side continues to develop.
"Three or four of our under 16s from last year have been playing really well and I'm surprised just how quick they've picked up the speed of the game," Blackhall said.
Sam O'Connell crossed for a double in another strong performance while Natasha Clemson also impressed.
Results across the weekend locked in Kangaroos' finals berth.
Albury needs to down their Wagga rivals to keep hold on third position on the ladder heading into finals.
However Blackhall isn't overly worried about where they finish.
"The result is no biggie for us on the weekend but we just need to get ourselves ready for finals," he said.
"Our attack has dropped off in the last couple of weeks so we're going to be concentrating on that."
Meanwhile Temora confirmed their minor premiership and ended Cootamundra's slim chance of making finals with a 44-6 win.
Gundagai claimed a 8-6 win over Southcity while Brothers scored a 72-0 win over Junee.
