The Hoppers moved to outright top spot for the first time this season with just two rounds remaining following the 11.16 (82) to 8.8 (56) victory at Kindra Park.

A fast-start laid the foundation for the win with four goals inside the opening 10 minutes putting Coolamon on the path to victory.

After shooting to a 26-point lead at quarter-time, Collingullie-GP were much more competitive for the remainder of the contest and did close within three goals early in the third term.

The Hoppers steadied and when Joe Redfern kicked the first two goals of the last term, the home team stretched their advantage to 45 points.

But the Demons showed plenty of fight and kicked the last four goals of the game to add some respectability to the scoreboard, despite succumbing to their seventh straight defeat.

For Coolamon, a seventh straight victory has them on top and confidence sky high ahead of a top of the table clash with Wagga Tigers next Saturday.

Coolamon co-coach Jamie Maddox was happy to get the four points.

"It was a good win. They're a good side and have got good players across the park so it's good to come away with the points in the end," Maddox said.

"(The start) was something we stressed during the week, we knew the start was going to be critical so it was nice that the boys stepped up and went well in that first quarter and we played our best footy in that first quarter.

"It was sort of a fierce type of contest. We played some good footy in patches and we let them back into it in patches but it was still a good result."

Maddox conceded it was exciting for the club to find themselves on top of the ladder just two weeks out from finals.

"It's good. I didn't really think too much about it but it's nice and nice for the boys, it's a bit of reward for them," he said.

"They know it's all up to next week to see what happens and where it all finishes up but it's good reward for them, for sure"

Nick Pleming was outstanding in the midfield for Coolamon, while Joe Redfern (4.2), Jerry Maslin (2.3) and Matt McGowan (2.3) caused plenty of headaches for the Collingullie-GP defence.

Ed Perryman again showed his class for the Demons, while Marc Geppert finished with four goals.
