Wagga woman Genevieve Fleming started the change.org petition, writing "Joe McGirr has today declared he will not support the Reproductive Health Care Bill 2019 to decriminalise abortion in NSW".
"Women and doctors currently face 10 years imprisonment for procuring or receiving an abortion," she wrote
"This law was written in the crimes act 119 years ago.
"Between one quarter and one third of Australian women will experience an abortion in their lifetime.
"The criminalisation of abortion leaves women in NSW at the mercy of doctors, who then make decisions about whether the woman's pregnancy will proceed, based on the doctor's view of the woman's physical and mental state."
By 3pm on Thursday, Ms Fleming's original goal of 100 signatures had been exceeded.
Speaking to The Daily Advertiser, she said there were "200 women in this electorate who access termination services every year".
"I don't think they're criminals and I don't think the doctors who refer them are," Ms Fleming said.
"I think that Joe McGirr stood on a platform that he would put his own beliefs aside to represent this community.
"He said he would consult with this community. He has not consulted with this community.
This community voted for marriage equality. We've had a mardi gras.
"This community - if you did a plebiscite here - would support legal termination services and Joe McGirr is not representing his electorate and it's extremely disappointing."
