Police said there was a report of a break-in and person acting suspiciously near the site of a number of break-ins in the Boorooma area on Saturday afternoon.
Wagga Police superintendent Bob Noble said a "concerned neighbour" observed the 17-year-old acting suspiciously and took a photo of him on her mobile before notifying police.
"Police acted very quickly and apprehended the young person, and charged them with break and enter into a Boorooma home on Flack Crescent," he said.
"The 17-year-old was arrested and refused bail, and was due to appear in bail court this morning."
Superintendent Noble said this was one of a few break and enters in the Boorooma and Estella area of late.
"We have charged a number of people for those offences and this most recent charge is a big step forward in reducing crime in that area," he said.
