Police have described the pre-dawn incident as a "targeted attack" and have appealed for anyone who might have been in the area at the time to come forward.
Wagga Police Inspector Adrian Telfer said investigations will likely continue for the weeks ahead.
"Our detectives are still working on that today and I foresee that they will be working on it for the weeks ahead as it was a serious crime and that's why we'll be continuing with our investigations," Inspector Telfer said.
Emergency services were called to a property on Eldershaw Drive in Forest Hill about 5.30am on Wednesday after a man was woken by the sound of a motorbike.
Police said a shot was fired into the home and the occupants inside - three men aged in their 20s - were lucky to escape without injury.
A description of the person responsible for discharging the shot has been released as detectives investigate what triggered the early-morning attack.
Eldershaw Drive resident Kay Jones, who lives just a few doors down from the targeted house, said the incident has disrupted what was usually a peaceful street.
