But Coolamon coach Claudia Barton insists it's possible to win the Riverina League netball title from fourth or fifth after they easily accounted for Turvey Park 61-20 on Saturday.
The win keeps Coolamon (24 points) in fourth on percentage ahead of Griffith (24) and sixth-placed Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong (22).
The Hoppers host the Swans in a crucial clash this weekend, with the winner to take a huge step toward booking a top five berth.
Griffith are coming off a bye but won their past three, including becoming the first team to beat Collingullie-Glenfield Park, and beat Coolamon 44-31 in May.
Barton said the match could be decided between the ears, with her team also hitting its straps with three wins from four games.
"It will be a mental thing against Griffith, so we have to rise above that," she said.
"Our centre court supply to the shooting end has improved dramatically, it's exciting to watch.
"Definitely (we can win from outside the top three), with how we've been improving I think anything's possible."
Coolamon will be missing centre courter Gemma Carey after she injured her back.
In other games ladder leaders Collingullie-Glenfield Park maintained a two-point buffer over Mangoplah-Cookardinia United Eastlakes and Wagga Tigers with a 71-34 win over Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong the Tigers thrashed Narrandera 68-35 and MCUE beat Leeton Whitton 73-28.
