Local businesses are facing their own hardships, according to CanAssist Vice President Ian Mott.
"We've been asking around for rural businesses and even butchers to sponsor us, but they're all struggling themselves with drought and meat prices going through the roof," he said.
"Everyone is in a bad spot so it's not that they don't want to help, it's just hard."
In other news:
Asking for $200 to sponsor a pig, or a little more for a whole race, CanAssist need at least $2000 to make the event happen in October.
"We are actually planning a meeting on Monday to decide what happens and if the event can even go ahead now," Mr Mott said.
"We should be well into the promotion stage now, but we haven't even gotten as far as securing the event."
The event features Noah's Thoroughbred Racing Pigs, with naming rights to each pig auctioned off.
"Kev who organises the races has the best commentary, he knows every pun in the book about pigs and we really hope to get face painting and things like that for all day entertainment," Mr Mott said.
