The Dragons gave up a 26-0 lead up against Young at Nixon Park on Sunday before some late heroics from their leader.
His 40-metre field goal was just enough as Temora scored a 27-26 victory to remain a win outside the top five.
It is the second time in two seasons an Elwin field goal has been the difference between the two teams, but the 24-year-old tried to play down the big moment.
"I got lucky with the wind," Elwin said.
"I tried to go to the side with the wind behind me and a quick play the ball."
Temora fired to a 26-0 lead after 27 minutes before it almost been horribly wrong.
Not only did they not take advantage of Blake Hewitt being sin binned, but the Dragons conceded twice before half-time.
Young kept coming and when Jacob Lucas crossed for his second late in the game levelled things they had all the momentum.
However Elwin was able to respond to pick up another crucial points points as Temora look to end their finals drought.
Elwin wants more from his side.
"I don't think we're hungry enough at the moment," he said.
"Ten years without finals footy and it shows in situations like this.
"We haven't learned how to put the foot on the throat and make things hard for ourselves."
Elwin wants the side to be smarter with another important clash with Kangaroos at Equex Centre on Sunday.
They need to keep winning to stay in the finals hunt after three successive losses saw them drop out of the five.
"It was massive and at 26-all it was looking very grim but we rallied together," he said.
"Talk was very positive behind the line so I knew we had a chance to win."
