Emily Gray and Aidan Grey have set up a Go Fund Me page after their four-month-old puppy Zoey was hit by a car on Kincaid Street on Tuesday night, breaking two hips and her right leg.

The duo adopted their Kelpie crossed Blue Heeler just one month ago - and had since moved their family of three fur-babies from Batesman Bay to Wagga.

"Our rental has an electric gate and it didn't shut all the way - we didn't realise. She managed to squeeze out and I was busy cooking dinner and didn't know she was gone until my sister went out to play with the dogs," Miss Gray said.

"We went searching for her about 6pm and found her laying in a little ball at a park behind our house, which we had taken her to a couple of times."

After a visit to the vet, Miss Gray said their only options are to see a specialist - costing up to $5000 - or amputate Zoey's right leg.

"We don't have that kind of money. We're only in our early 20's," she said.

"It is a terrible feeling to be told that if we can't come up with the money, she just has to live her life without her leg - and that feels like our fault."

Miss Gray said Zoey was a "typical little Kelpie" who is very curious and loves jumping all over the place. The duo's Go Fund Me page has a goal of raising $1900 to help prepare them for the worse.

"If we can raise enough money for the specialist surgery it will go towards that, but it is a lot of money so, we have set the goal small, which will prepare us if she has to lose her leg," she said.

Miss Gray said her fur-baby is staying at the vet until she undergoes the procedures she needs.

"We have two other dogs, who are missing her very much," she said.
