Situated in the small country town of Grong Grong, the hotel was built in 1875 to accommodate a horse coach travel industry.

Kay Obudzinski and her husband Ted bought the hotel in 1992 and said a lot has changed since then.

"The drought really affected us hard, especially last year as there was no harvest and so it was dead quiet," Mrs Obudzinski said.

"The drought has been very tough on everyone and all the shops as we rely on the farmers because everything comes from the ground."

Mrs Obudzinski said her time running the hotel has not always been challenging, but it was time to move on.

"We haven't had a break or a holiday in 26 years, so it's time for us to get out while we can as I've got Parkinson's disease," she said.

"We're stale and it's time for us to move on as we've been there, done that.

"We won't organise any plans until we leave, but our children have told us to get out as we need a break."

The pair said a middle-aged couple with some enthusiasm would suit this pub, which Mrs Obudzinski said is manageable to run.

"My husband and I run the place and we have some help in the kitchen, but you only need one person on during the day and two at night," she said.

"It just needs someone who has enthusiasm and can get it going to where it used to be."

The Obudzinskis purchased the hotel after they moved around with jobs.

"My mum and stepfather had a hotel in 1976 and we were looking to take it over, but we decided not to," she said.

"We were living in Melbourne at the time and my husband got promoted to Albury and then Narrandera, but then he was made redundant so we decided to buy the Royal Hotel."

Mrs Obudzinski said one of her highlights at the hotel was when deputy prime minister Michael McCormack told her she cooked the best bangers and mash around as well as visits from Phil Brock and Jim Wagner in 2000.

The hotel which includes a camping ground, situated on 27 Narrandera Street, is listed for $290,000.
