The last-start Wagga winner will contest the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1590m) at Wodonga, where the track is rated a heavy 10.
Manhattan Zip is untested on a heavy surface and Colvin is unsure how the four-year-old will handle the conditions.
"It's really going to be heavy but you have just got to try and find out. There's nothing else around for him to go," Colvin said.
"He'll have this run and go for a break. I've got a bit of time for him, he's a nice horse but he's still maturing. I think next prep will be his best, he just needs time."
Nick Heywood takes the ride on Manhattan Zip, who has 60 kilograms and will start from barrier four.
The Scott Spackman-trained Cryfowl will contest the same race and gets in with 54kg after apprentice Josh Richards' claim.
Meantime, Southern District racing heads to Albury on Tuesday with a seven-race card.
