The Hawks became the first team to beat Hanwood last week, holding off the Griffith newcomers 1-0 to put themselves in realistic contention for the premiership.

But the fourth-placed Crows showed they're capable of pressing the top sides in one of the tightest title races in recent memory.

The draw proved a huge opportunity missed for Henwood Park when Young condemned Hanwood to a second straight loss with a 1-0 defeat on Sunday.

An Alex Mitchell strike from 25 yards out midway through the first half was enough to secure an upset for the Lions. It means Hanwood has given up the competition lead to Lake Albert after a Jamie Rankin hat-trick guided the Sharks to a 3-0 win over South Wagga on Sunday.

Henwood Park took the lead after just six minutes when a defensive miskick fell in Ryan McKenzie's path, who made no mistake.

Shortly before halftime Wagga United equalised when youngster Kein Crevatin scored, pouncing after Henwood Park's keeper parried a Lincoln Weir free kick in his direction.

Asked if he was relatively pleased with a draw, Wagga United coach Travis Weir said: "No, not really.

"They had more chances later in the game, we just lost our legs a little bit, but the first half we really dominated.

"We're still playing with niggles, if we can get our side right we'll be OK.

"They had their chances and our defenders scrapped really well. At the start of the season we would probably lose games like that, it's important now the effort's there for the full 90 minutes."

McKenzie said the result gave Henwood Park some perspective before the more important games ahead.

"It's good it's happened midway through the season and not towards the end. It means we have to keep working hard to get the results moving forward," he said.

"Towards the end we weren't finding the right ball in the final third, but other than that we played quite well I thought.

"They (Wagga United) always like approaching a game as the underdog, but to be honest they've got the team to really put a dent in the final series."

In other results Leeton United embarrassed Cootamundra 17-0, and Tolland secured a much-needed road win over Tumut 2-1.
