A rupture to the gas main supplying the school has left most of the buildings without heating.

The school is encouraging parents to seek "warmer alternatives" for children on Thursday and Friday or for students to wear warmer clothes to school.

According to a Department of Education spokesperson, students have not been put in any danger and will continue to be safe if they choose to attend school for the remainder of the week.

"Options for alternative heating have been limited, so following careful consideration of the progress of repairs and the weather forecast the school is following the Department of Education reduced school operations guidelines over the next two days," the spokesperson said.

"There will be education and supervision for students who attend.

"Parents whose students will be attending school are urged to ensure their students are dressed warmly and reminded that they do not have to wear their school uniform."

The spokesperson said the school hopes to resume its normal schedule next Monday.

"The school appreciates the response and co-operation of students and staff, and the understanding of parents, since the loss of gas," the spokesperson said.

"It appreciates that the complex task of restoring supply is working as quickly as possible and the school hopes normal routines will be restored next week."
