A right wrist problem ended his season at Yanco-Wamoon last year and it caused plenty of concern after he failed to play out the Wagga's side 40-30 loss to Albury on Sunday.
The 28-year-old went to get scans on Monday but there was no doctor on hand in Leeton to do so.
Still he's confident he'll be right to tackle Young on Saturday in what is a crucial game for both clubs.
"I'll find a guard and most likely play on the weekend," Dumbrell said.
"It will be right.
"I did it last year and once you get a guard the pain goes away."
The star hooker had surgery on his wrist last year and believes the impact at Greenfield Park was in the same spot he still has screws in.
He tried to play through the issue as Kangaroos looked like upsetting Albury but couldn't finish it off.
"It's hit right on where I had the surgery last year," Dumbrell said.
"I did it in the first half but it just got sorer and sorer.
"Eventually I had to pull the pin with about 15 minutes to go."
Either could his side.
They led 24-16 early in the second half before the fourth-placed Thunder recovered.
Dumbrell believes it is systematic of a slow start to the season.
"I thought we were going pretty good but we just didn't finish, as per usual," he said.
"I thought we were the better team on the day but we just stopped scoring points towards the end and they ran over the top of us."
Dumbrell thought Albury underestimated them following the slow start.
Kangaroos haven't won since round two and sit five points outside the top five.
They slipped to ninth after Young's win over Cootamundra which makes the clash with the Cherrypickers at Alfred Park even more important.
"Five points isn't a large margin considering we have only won two games and if we can rattle off a few wins in the next few weeks we would be right back up in the mix," Dumbrell said.
"This weekend is very important for us."
Kangaroos scored a 26-18 win in round one.
