The women's sevens team finished fifth in the last leg of the series in Biarritz.
The side, featuring Wagga's Alicia Quirk and Batlow's Sharni Williams, suffered a 15-14 loss to Spain in the quarter finals but a 31-21 win over Russia and a 24-10 win over France were just enough to hold the French at bay and finish the series in fourth place.
Winners New Zealand, runners-up USA and Canada also confirmed their place in Tokyo.
Coach John Manenti was pleased to ensure their place.
