A week after upsetting last year's premiers Marrar, the Blues were far too good for fellow top-five hopefuls Charles Sturt University, leading all the way for a 10-goal victory.

The 13.14 (92) to 4.8 (32) win saw Coleambally jump both the Bushpigs and the Northern Jets on the ladder and take hold of fifth spot.

It's quite the turnaround. In eight days, the Blues have gone from being in danger of slipping to last (if they'd lost to Marrar) to sending a shiver of concern through the rest of the comp.

"It's really good, to get fifth spot at the halfway mark," Blues co-coach Mitch Carroll said.

"We just talked about trying to get into fifth and maintain our good footy at the moment.

"I think we took a lot from last week, with our pressure. It showed again today when our tackle count was up and probably our urgency to make the contest, to make that tackle, and our willingness to win the ball back was the most pleasing thing."

A strong start was again crucial as the Blues kicked all three goals of the first quarter, all to figures who would play important roles throughout - key forwards Dwayne Weetra (who finished with five goals) and Jack Cullen (four) and midfielder Curtis Steele (two).

With five goals to one in the next two terms, the Blues were home and hosed, leading by 61 points at three-quarter-time.

Carroll said they could've finished off better in the last and the challenge of trying to make it three on the trot when East Wagga-Kooringal arrive next week ensured they won't be getting carried away.

"We're just trying to concentrate on our own game and see if we can dictate terms, that's our main focus at the minute. But obviously East Wagga, you can rattle off half a dozen (players) straight away that you've got to be wary of," Carroll said.

Tom Morton had another powerful game at centre-half-back while teenager Cullen's effort at centre-half-forward was his best for his home club. Carroll said broad team efforts have been the secret to their recent success but wingmen Charlie McAdam and Jake Breed also played valuable roles.

Joe Stapleton and Jack Thompson were strong for CSU on a tough day out that saw them slip to second last on the ladder. They travel to Temora to take on a rejuvenated Roos next week.
