The Boiled Lollies caused an upset when they scored a 37-19 win over their crosstown rivals to start the season.
It ended their 16-game winning streak and remains Waratahs' only loss through the first seven rounds of the competition.
It was Wagga City's first win over their closest rivals in six years and they have mixed their form since.
Captain-coach James Curgenven is determined to show they are competitive with the Southern Inland's best in the big clash at Conolly Rugby Complex on Saturday.
"We would like to think we are going to be in that top four and beating Tahs again would be a great way to prove it wouldn't just a lucky game, it wasn't that Tahs just didn't play but we actually played better in both games," Curgenven said.
"That is what he hope to achieve but obviously Waratahs will be a lot stronger side.
"I'm pretty sure Waratahs will be using that round one game as a very big motivator to put one over us this weekend."
With two losses in their last three games, a win would alleviate some of the pressure on the Bin the top-four race.
Wagga City are third, three points clear of Tumut but have Albury and Griffith starting to find some form below them as well.
Curgenven knows it is an important game for the club.
"With us losing to Albury it closed the gap up quite a bit and put a bit more pressure on us with playing Tumut next week," he said.
"It's a big two weeks and if we don't get at least one win out of the next two we are going to put ourselves under a lot of pressure.
"We're hoping to get a good jump on Tahs and go from there."
Wagga City have made a number of changes following the 31-24 loss to Albury.
Michael Tuilau comes back into the front row after being part of Southern Inland's representative success.
Grant Roben is back in the second row, Drew Martin has reclaimed the halfback position while Eddie Lagaali returns to inside centre.
Christian Smith also returns at number eight from a shoulder issue however they are still missing the suspsended Gordon Lagaali and Will Boneham in the forward pack.
Curgenven isn't concerned with how many changes have been made.
"We're trying to get a bit of continuity there but we need our best players on the park really," he said.
Curgenven is under an injury cloud with a hip complaint suffered in the loss to the Steamers.
However he believes it is too big of a game to miss.
It is a slightly earlier start, with the game to kick off at 3.05pm.
