Football Wagga development officer Liam Dedini believes the 14 year boys program will improve markedly in coming seasons after their first year in the Wanderers' academy environment.

Although the side didn't win a match, they elevated their game throughout the Football NSW Country Cup tournament at Rawlings Park on the weekend.
Wagga hosted the 14 years and 15 years boys tournaments, with the 15 boys finishing just out of the medals in third place in their six-team competition.
The under-12 boys finished runners up at their tournament in Dubbo, narrowly missing out on overall honours after falling to eventual champions Orange 2-1.
"It's the 14 team's fist year in the academy environment, throughout the whole tournament they kept improving and have come a long way from the start of the year," Dedini said.
"Now we have these academy teams, more players are being exposed to a higher level. Six years ago when we first started it basically all teams were getting beaten in the Country Cup, but in the next few years some of these kids should be pushing for NPL as well.
"It was a good hit-out for all teams leading into the Kanga Cup (at Canberra early next month)."
Meanwhile, local talent Elena Franklin was part of the Combined Independent Schools team that won the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association state championships recently.
Mater Dei Catholic College's Luke Stevens was also named as a shadow player for the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges team.
