While the ribbon might have been cut on Tuesday, BreastScreen has been taking patients at the site for almost a month.

BreastScreen moved to its new location in Berry Street as part of the Wagga Base Hospital upgrade project and the new site offers free breast screening and assessment services up to the diagnosis of breast cancer.

Natasha Maclaren-Jones, the NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Health, was in Wagga for the official opening.

"This location is all about visibility and accessibility," she said.

"It is unfortunate that breast cancer is one of the leading cancers for women in NSW. We see one in eight being diagnosed in their lifetime."

Ms Maclaren-Jones said women aged between 50 and 74 were particularly encouraged to have a screening mammogram.

"Early detection is all about early screening. With a mammogram, you can detect cancers as small as a grain of rice. Some of it you wouldn't necessarily detect if you were doing your own examination," she said.
