Wagga police Inspector Adrian Telfer said officers had been out in force as part of the state-wide safety drive, Operation Stay Alert.
"Over 5800 breath tests were conducted in this area," he said.
"We are pleased that we only saw two, that is low numbers ... that is still two too many though."
"We are very pleased that we didn't see any serious crashes in our area."
It was the first long where anyone caught drink-driving in NSW at any level, including low-range, could lose their licence immediately and face a $561 fine.
"I think people are just talking about it again," Inspector Telfer said.
"I think that's a refreshing change to legislation and I think it is all about people being aware.
"It's hard to measure that, but let's hope that is the case."
Inspector Telfer said 170 traffic infringement notices were issued for offences such as speeding and driving without a seatbelt.
"It's a concern that people don't get the message that you must wear your seatbelt," he said.
