And it has been one of the best openings in almost 20 years.
Snow enthusiasts flocked to the resorts over the long weekend with more than 90cm of snow blanketing the ski runs in the lead up.

Hotham Alpine Resort's Chris Hocking said they had a base of "over half a metre".
"The resort was blanketed with 91cm in the past 10 days leaving a base near of over half a metre for opening weekend," he said.
"A weekend of festivities along with very good snow conditions had skiers and snowboarders excited about the official opening to the snow season this year."
On Falls Creek over the weekend Jamie Jensen said his daughter and him were "having a great time".
"There was plenty of snow, we were just shredding and having a great time," he said.
Leanne Jago said she was surprised the "snow was this good" so early in the season.
"It is really easy to ski on and lots of powder out there too," she said.
