The chances of one hole-in-one are remote, let alone three. But not for Wagga's Castle family.

Claire Castle-Slater, her son Paul and grandson Michael can lay claim to a rare and remarkable sporting achievement at Wagga Country Club after all acing the 18^th.

That's right. Three generations have all produced the perfect shot off the 18^th, in what is generally considered he toughest par-three on the course.

Castle-Slater led the way when she produced a hole-in-one on June 9, 1987.

Her son Paul followed suit on New Year's Day in 2000, and has since backed it up on another three occasions - April 4, 2001, September 3, 2003 and June 11, 2007.

Then just last month, Michael Castle continued the family tradition by 'flushing' his four iron into the 18^th hole during Wednesday afternoon competition.

To make the moment even more enjoyable, Paul was playing alongside him at the time.

"It was just a Wednesday afternoon comp playing alongside Dad and one of his mates and one of my mates," Michael explained.

"I flushed a four iron and two bounces and it disappeared.

"It's good. It's my first one. I've been close a couple of times but it's a buzz when it does go in."

For Michael, who plays off three, it meant the end of some gentle sledging.

"I used to hear about it all of the time. How come you haven't had one, your old man's had four on this hole, you're dragging the chain," he said.

"I've been trying for 30 years. It's the hardest hole on the course I reckon."

Her perfect shot on the 18^th, almost 32 years ago, was one of four hole-in-ones for Castle-Slater. She has also enjoyed success on the 7^th hole twice, and the 14^th.

A former club champion and captain, Castle-Slater revealed the secret to a hole-in-one.

"Luck, I'd say" she said.

"A fluke it is."

For Paul, his four hole-in-ones on the 18^th have all come from different clubs, ranging from a two iron to three wood.

"It's all luck. It depends on what the winds doing, how far the pins back and where the tees are," he said.

Aside from mastering the 18^th hole, the Castle family have another thing in common.

"We love the game, there is no doubt about that," Paul said.

"We've played a lot together. Michael and I play every Wednesday and I really like being able to play a sport with my son. I used to play with Mum all of the time too or whenever we could."
