Riverina Police District detective chief Inspector Andrew Spliet said investigations began after the family contacted police, concerned about the images captured on CCTV.
"Local detectives conducted a number of inquiries and detected a suspect for that matter," he said.
"Yesterday morning detectives, with the assistance of some other local police here at Wagga, conducted a search warrant at an address in Mount Austin.
"At that address a 33-year-old male has since been arrested in relation to those offences."
Inspector Spliet said the Mount Austin man had four charges laid against him, including carrying out a sexual act towards another person without their consent and remaining on the premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
"During the search warrant we also located a number of cannabis plants at that address," he said.
Inspector Spliet said the 33-year-old was refused bail and is scheduled to attend court today.
"I would like to put it out there in the community that this isn't a usual occurrence," he said.
"It's an unusual offence ... and obviously it has been a traumatic experience for the victim involved."
Inspector Spliet said it was a timely reminder for residents to check what security measures they have in place.
"The CCTV footage provided valuable evidence," he said.
"It also highlighted the benefits of having sensor lights around your premises as well."
