English all-rounder Alex Smeeth and accomplished off-spinner Lachie Skelly have left Lake Albert to join cross-town rivals South Wagga.
Smeeth was captain of Lake Albert's 2017-18 premiership team but has decided for a change after three seasons at the Bulls.
He will be joined by Skelly, 20, who took 25 wickets at an average of 17 in his first season in Wagga.
Smeeth, a left-arm quick and classy batsman, believes it was time for a change.
"I had three enjoyable years at Lake Albert, made a lot of friends and had some success there, but I just felt personally and cricket-wise it was time for a bit of a change," Smeeth said.
"Me and Lachie had a bit of a chat about this and we felt we got along with a lot of (South Wagga) blokes, culturally, they've got a good thing going and obviously cricket wise they're in a good place as well so it wasn't really too difficult of a decision."
Skelly was happy to make the move across to South Wagga as well.
"I had a pretty good year at Lake Albert last year. I just figured it was time for a change," Skelly said.
"They're all a great bunch of blokes (at South Wagga). I really get on with them a lot so it should be a pretty fun year."
After winning the premiership this year, and having played in five of the last six Wagga Cricket grand finals, the addition of Smeeth and Skelly is only going to further strengthen an already formidable Blues line-up.
South Wagga president Joel Robinson believes the addition of Smeeth and Skelly will help strengthen their bowling attack.
"It was good when the opportunity arose, two of the best bowlers in the comp I guess, so it just adds to something we've maybe lacked over the last couple of years as well," Robinson said.
"Obviously winning a premiership, you can't be content with that so it's really good that we're still adding to our squad, keeping everyone on board and bringing our juniors through. I think it will be a really good mix this year again.
"We've had a really good core for the last five or six years, we've all become pretty good mates so I think that's going to continue over the next few years as well."
